‘The Phenomenon’ Announces His Retirement

The legendary striker Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima or ‘R9′ while other call him ‘The Phenomenon’ has announced his retirement.

The Brazilian striker has stated that his body cant handle anymore despite his desire to continue and his contract with his current club which still is not over.

“My body aches. In my head I want to continue, but this body can’t take much more,” Ronaldo told Fantastico online magazine. “In recent days I have cried like a baby.”

The 34 year old striker has enjoyed glorious seasons with some of the top European clubs that include: Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Barcelona and Ac.Milan.

‘R9′ is arguably considered as one of Brazil’s best players ever to touch a soccer pitch, being the World Cup’s all time goalscorer with 15 goals in 4 appearances.

Awarded with FIFA World Player of 1996, 1997 and 2002, The Golden boot in 1997 and Ballon D’Or in the World Cup of 98 and 2002.

‘The Phenomenon‘ has always suffered from injuries throughout his entire career. In Real Madrid he had to stay in the sidelines for a couple of months and when he was finally able to return he was awarded with the Ballon D’Or despite not having played for so long.

A true legend in every aspect and now we will see no more from such a great player. Soccer will never be the same without you.
