This season’s Champions League rolls on with more surprises as the matches end with a shocking and revealing result this time when the Spanish and almighty Barcelona lost against Chelsea in Stamford Bridge.
Didier Drogba was the only goal scorer in today’s game with a simple tap in into the net of Valdes in 1rst half.
Despite the triumph of Chelsea it was Barcelona who completely dominated every inch of the pitch and when it all came to an end, the statistics displayed 73% possession for the Spanish side.
Iniesta was one of the first to test Petr Cech as the winger slipped the ball across the goalkeeper and it was met by Fabregas who astonishly missed his chance to score. Some minutes and later and Messi came close when Daniel Alves crossed the ball and the diminutive Argentinean headed it into the right hand side of Cech who did superb in getting low and denying him from scoring.
The attacks continued on from Barcelona and they came as close as ever on taking the lead when Fabregas received a pass from Messi and the former Arsenal captain chipped the ball into an empty net but Ashley Cole made it just in time to slide and clear it away from danger when he came just before the ball had pass the goal line.
In the very last minute of the 1rst half, Didier Drogba scored the only goal of the entire encounter when Frank Lampard played a long and deep ball over to Ramires who chested it down and later passed it to the unmarked Drogba and the Ivorian tapped it past Valdes.
The remainder of the game and Barcelona kept on having the upper hand of possession but it just wasn’t their day as Lionel Messi seemed to be off in some instances as he failed to do some simple passes and most of his shots not causing much danger.
Another golden chance to score arrived for Barcelona when Pedro smashed the ball at the post and the rebound saw Busquets taking a close range shot but going amazingly wide above the crossbar.
It finally finalized 1-0 with Drogba netting the only goal giving Chelsea a small but priceless advantage as they are set to face 1 more time but only this time in Camp Nou next Tuesday.
