This year’s Euro is coming off with a number of surprises including the surprising elimination of Russia and Greece sneaking into the next stages of this tournament along with Czech Republic of Group A.
The Russian’s started off strong as Alan Dzagoev was rushing down the right wing and crossed the ball over to the captain of his team Andrey Arshavin who tried to volley it into the net of the opposition but failed on doing so as the goalkeeper Michalis Sifakis cleared it away from danger. Their attacking forces continued on causing havoc upon the defensive line of Greece as they intercepted and did everything needed in order to not concede any goals and remain in this tournament.
At the last few minutes of the 1rst half Karagounis turned the match upside down and mainly due to the disastrous mistake of Sergey Ignashevich when the defender tried to head the ball into the path of his partner but instead it was deflected off of Karagounis and the captain scored that so much needed goal which propels his team into the Quarter-Finals of the Euro.
A number of substitutions and offensive orientated changes were made by Russia in attempt to find the equalizer and it would be more than enough for them to qualify but they just couldn’t accomplish it as they were surprisingly knocked out from the group stages while Greece go against some of the tougher teams in Europe.
