Al Wasl sacked Diego Maradona after just 1 year following the takeover of the legendary Argentine player in which he failed to meet the expectations of the club. Maradona’s contract with the club was stated to expire on the next season but some disappointing results saw him getting expelled earlier than expected.
A club spokesman told the press: “Following a meeting by the Board of Directors of Al Wasl Football Company on Tuesday evening to evaluate the technical staff of the Al Wasl football team under the leadership of Diego Maradona and after thorough evaluation of the coach and his staff it, has been decided to terminate the services of Diego Maradona and his technical staff.”
The Emirati club finalized this season at the mid-section section of the table with a 8th spot position and now only that but failing to win any club cups as they were knocked out of virtually everything there is either on penalty strikes or eliminated from the quarter- final stages. Maradona faced something similar to this already when he was taken off the role of coaching Argentina back in 2008.
