In this new season of the Premier League, Manchester City has set themselves with the objective of defending their title and indeed they started the league with the right foot as they worked hard in order to get all 3 points on this match filled with drama and excitement from start till the very end.
Despite having picked up a triumph on their 1rst game, it comes with a sour taste as Sergio Aguero left the pitch on a stretcher after appearing to have twisted his knee at the first few minutes of the game and Dzeko came in to replace the injured player.
The game continued on flowing with City having the upper hand possession-wise and a golden opportunity arrived for the hosts to get in the lead. The former Arsenal player Nasri passed the ball to Carlos Tevez who received the ball inside the box was later tripped down by Jos Hooiveld and a penalty awarded to them. The resulting penalty kick was kicked by David Silva but his effort was saved by Kelvin Davis.
With 5 minutes remaining on the 1rst half, Carlos Tevez put his side on the lead before the break when Nasri chipped the ball into the path of the Argentine forward that scored with a low driven shot.
Lambert equalized the match at the 59th minute following a number of rebounds and quick passes that were being made in the box of City until the ball arrived at the legs of Lambert and he scored the 1rst goal of his side. Southampton managed to get in the lead for the first time after Rodwell made a horrific pass to the opposition which lead to a swift counter attack and ended up with the visiting side scoring their 2nd goal through the legs of Steven Davis.
More goals were yet to come as Dzeko was next in line to put his name on the score-sheet following a corner of Nasri up to Kompany who tried his luck with a close range shot but it was later blocked as it arrived near the spot of Dzeko and the Bosnian slammed it into the net.
City wanted to start the Premier League with a triumph and it worked out for them when the Frenchman Samir Nasri smacked it home with a nice volley at the last few minutes of the game.
