After successfully signing Kagawa and Van Persie, Manchester United was hoping to start this Premier League campaign on a positive note but it just not work out for them as they crashed and crumbled in Goodison Park against Everton.
It seemed as if Everton had the better opening minutes with Marouane Fellaini causing trouble upon the defenders of United. The Belgium midfielder managed to get past Antonio Valencia and the makeshift defender Michael Carrick on a number of occasions throughout the 1rst half although not being able to finish it off at this point.
With the 1rst half ticking down, Everton continued pressing upfront and forcing David De Gea on making late second saves over and over again. The defensive back line of United just couldn’t contain the attacking forces leaded by Fellaini and on most occasions it was De Gea who had to save his club from falling behind.
United tried to get a goal of their own on some instances through Wayne Rooney as he made Tim Howard make some good saves but other than that it was all Everton who were deserving of a goal.
Everton was finally rewarded after their hard work as they took the lead at the 57th minute when a corner was launched inside the box of United and it was Fellaini who headed it with a bullet header into the further side of De Gea’s post.
Sir.Alex Ferguson decided to put Robin Van Persie into the battle fray but the Dutch forward was barely involved in the play’s of his teammates as he made around 2 touches with the ball in the entire time he was inside the playing field.
Everton managed to hold with their minimum lead and picked up 3 golden points for this start of the Premier League.
